Nick Kitchin

Alan P. BracheNick Kitchin is founder and chief executive officer of Leading Your People To Success, a consultancy established to help SMEs and PLCs become more profitable, more productive, and better places to work – by guiding corporate culture change.

His career started with Shell Chemicals, which underwent one of the most radical and successful culture changes in British industry. This fuelled his interest in the people aspects of managing a business, showed him what could be done, and with this enthusiasm and experience he went on to be awarded an MBA at London Business School.

His next major culture change experience took place with Carpenter Ltd, a subsidiary of the USA parent Carpenter Co., where the transformation to a continuous improvement culture was driven by the management team including Nick as plant manager and later general manager.

As a result of this experience, McGraw-Hill recently published Nick Kitchin’s book Leading Your People To Success, which incorporates case studies about culture change within several firms including IBM, Alcan, British Airways and Shell.

Included in this book is a key element of successful culture change – determining the company Values (the principles and beliefs on which the business is founded and that determine people’s behaviour and business relationships), Mission (why we exist), and Vision (what we wish to be in the future). The Vision is often expressed in two parts; a huge goal, plus a vivid description of what the organization will look like once that goal is achieved. For Leading Your People To Success Ltd, these are:

Values: Employee Development, Professionalism, Innovation, Trust, Enjoyment

Mission: To make organizations better places to work.

Vision: To be a global (4 continents) player provider of culture change advice.

When we have achieved this vision we shall be known globally as the Dale Carnegie equivalent for culture change… supporting multi-national customers in addition to individual small and medium sized organizations.

Our centres of excellence in each of 4 continents… ultimately linked to our UK base… will facilitate a network of highly skilled, qualified and professional employees who feel trusted to deliver innovative culture change advice in an enjoyable way…

…and in addition to our own centre for employee development… our links with other universities and business education providers will enable us to contribute to new human resources thinking… with the ultimate aim of continuing to help organizations become even more profitable, more productive and better places to work.
